When did you start drawing and why?
I always loved drawing as a child, particularly highly decorated cats sitting on fences!
What is your favourite book that you’ve written or illustrated?
I Can Draw Princesses and Fairy Tales because it contains a diverse selection of fairy tale characters and princesses, and it was such fun creating my own versions of classic characters such as the Gingerbread Man.
What were you like as a child?
Shy and thoughtful.

What superpower would you like to have?
To produce roller skates from my feet at any time.
Do you have any pets or what imaginary pet would you have?
A friendly tiger to skate around with.
Where do you write or draw and what do you use?
In my dining room which is part art studio. I write ideas in notebooks and turn them into books on my computer. I am currently developing the skills to illustrate with lots of different media including gouache paints and lino printing.

What happens in your virtual author sessions?
We do a step-by-step drawing activity where the class create the same basic character as me, but they have loads of opportunity to individualise the character and make it their own. We talk through some inspiration and they create more original characters, and finally a comic or picture book plan for their characters to star in.
What’s the best thing about being an author or illustrator?
Being able to do lots of different and interesting things.
And finally, what’s your top writing or drawing tip?
Keep practising and remember you do this because you love it.
